Could Master Jedi Yoda appear in the next episode of the Star Wars saga? Quite possible, it is.
Citing an unnamed insider source, the New York Daily News is reporting that director J.J. Abrams is bringing the little green backwards-talking Jedi ghost back for Star Wars: Episode IX. After all, his cameo in last year’s The Last Jedi was met with praise from critics and fans alike.
The news outlet’s source says the spirit of Yoda, again voiced by puppeteer Frank Oz, will return to guide young Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she learns the ways of the Force.
“Yoda will again appear as a ghost as he acknowledges Rey’s success and growth as a Jedi,” the source tells the Daily News. “The scenes are due to be put together later this year.”
Considering there’s a decent chance Luke Skywalker won’t be returning for Episode IX, not even as a mentoring space ghost, this makes sense. After all, someone needs to help young Rey complete her training! (And it really shouldn’t be Kylo.)
So. Shall Master Yoda and Rey meet for the first time in the final chapter of this new trilogy? Patience, young Padawaans. Patience.
Star Wars: Episode IX hits theatres December 20, 2019.
